Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Wells Water District to Consider Tabling Further Action on Agreement with Poland Spring

Kennebunk, Maine – July 9, 2008 – The Trustees of the Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Wells Water District have scheduled a Special Meeting to consider Superintendent Norm Labbe’s recommendation to indefinitely table further action with regard to the proposed agreement to sell spring water to Poland Spring. The Trustees will meet on July 17th at 3:00 pm at the Water District Office at 92 Main Street.

"We have heard from many customers with a variety of perspectives on the proposed contract with Poland Spring. Whether opposed or in favor of the contract, customers told us they’d like to have more factual information and an opportunity for more up-front input on a proposal of this nature. The Water District prides itself on the level of service it provides its customers, and part of our service is listening, understanding and responding to customer concerns. As a result, I will recommend to the Trustees at their upcoming Special Meeting to indefinitely table further action with regard to the proposed Poland Spring contract. We want our customers to know that in the future if this or another similar proposal is brought to our Board for consideration, prior to taking any action our customers can be assured that they will have ample opportunity for input, which may include a customer survey or referendum." said Norm Labbe, District Superintendent.

The Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Wells Water District is a quasi-municipal water utility established in 1921 by Special Act of the Maine Legislature. Its service area extends 25 miles along the York County coastline and includes the towns of Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Wells, Ogunquit, Arundel and portions of Biddeford and York. www.kkw.org
