| Regional Water Council Update
January 10, 2008
As further detailed in the 10/25/06 update, the Southern Maine Regional Water Council has been actively working on programs and initiatives aimed at reducing costs, improving customer service and planning for the long-term water supply needs of the region.
On the latter initiative, the Council recently applied for and received a $100,000 "Credit Quality Improvement Grant" through the Maine Municipal Bond Bank. The grant funds are primarily being utilized to conduct a comprehensive water supply study for the region served by the Council. This much needed study, in addition to providing an initial road map for the short and long-term development of our water systems, will provide a framework for regional cooperation, not only for Council members, but for other regional initiatives throughout the state of Maine.
The water supply study is expected to be completed by July 2008. If you would like more information about this significant initiative, contact me at your convenience.
