Water Supply
January 21, 2005
Since the 1960s, area water utility managers have occasionally discussed water system interconnections and overall regional water supply concepts. For a variety of reasons, including regional growth, limited water supplies, the events of 9/11 and State budget deficits, a group of southern coastal Maine utilities are raising the regional dialog to a higher level. They are proposing enabling legislation to allow for the formation of "Regional Water Councils" by
any two or more water utilities.
There are many potential benefits to forming such a cooperative venture. In addition to potential cost savings for our customers, our primary motivation for supporting this initiative is to assure that an objective and comprehensive regional water supply planning effort is undertaken, assuring that our future customers will be served by a high quality and economical source of supply. There is additional information about growth and water supply, as well as the current status of our source of supply KKWWD web site.
